ATypI 2022: Shodō

A speculative conference identity concept imagining ATypI 2022 in Kyoto, Japan. The challenge was designing a Latin wordmark that engaged authentically with shodō (書道, the way of writing) rather than simply borrowing its aesthetic. The letterforms are drawn using shodō stroke principles: weight distribution, brush entry and exit, the relationship between positive space and void. The 書道 seal mark anchors the system in the tradition it references, while vertical kanji in the poster compositions mirrors classical Japanese typesetting.
